About Us

Amber by J.G. Haddow
"At Santiago, in San Domingo, in the valley of the brook Acagua, amber pieces, some as large as the egg of a goose, reward the explorer." - J.G. Haddow, 1891

Although times have changed and amber is not found as easily as J.G.Haddow described it in 1891, we do have our contacts directly into the mines. We speak to the miners and owners of the mines in their own language. We are your direct link.

Amber from the Dominican Republic stands out from the amber found in other regions, because the occurrence of fossil insects in Dominican Amber is about 10 times higher than in Baltic amber and it is also 90% more transparent. It is found in several natural colors you will find nowhere else in the world. Read about Dominican Amber on Wikipedia.

Our Dominican Amber is the REAL thing, natural amber as it comes from the mine. It has been subject only to mechanical treatment (for instance: grinding, cutting, turning and polishing), without any change to its natural properties. It has not been heat enhanced (autoclaved) to "enliven, clear and brighten" the stone. We sell it just the way Mother Nature intended. And that woman DOES have her own style.

Hermann and Angie DittrichThe last 40 years
of their life, the German Dittrich family has spent among Latin Americans in different countries on and off the South American continent and the Caribbean. They came to the DR 18 years ago with their two sons Alexander and Michael and stayed. The Dittrich's are to be considered true multinationals and even more so now since Michael got married to a French Canadian girl. The whole family takes special pride in their volunteer work in the community.

The Dominican amber project developed when Hermann, a graduate in international commerce, was asked to do research for the Amber and the Larimar museums in Santo Domingo. During his studies, he and his wife Angie fell in love with this unique and extraordinary material. Because of their background and insight in the Latin mentality, they easily could build not only close personal ties with the folks at the mines but also best business contacts.

To promote and organize international sales, AmbarAzul, LLC was founded in the US state of Delaware. Today, the whole family is involved in the amber business. Each member contributing with his abilities and talents, knowledge and experience to the different aspects of this venture. We each personally stand behind our business.

Service is one of the most difficult commodities to get. And yet, this is what we offer: fastest possible response time, the best support available in communication and information and of course the best product. We are present when the rare material is found and we buy directly on location to have best prices. We carefully select each item in order to supply the proper quality for you. You can't have a better partner in this business.
